Looking Fancy

Feeling a little shy at first
Enjoying the photo shoot more standing up!
Photos with her Brothers Damien & Daren

Have been meaning to post these photos of the Dahlia and her brothers for a while now so I finally had a chance to scan them in! They took these photos in December, we wanted to update photos in our living room since we didn't have any of Dahlia since she had been born.

They took the photos at Picture Me Portraits, studios which are located inside Walmart stores. I bought the silver package (a little too pricey for me!) but it gave me a few free items:
  • 16x20 Framed Picture of my choice
  • 10x10 Framed Picture of my choice (customized)
  • Magnet Photo Album

DIY Princess Hair Clip Holder

Finally I had a chance to work and post the DIY princess hair clip holder which I absolutely love how it turned out! For those of you who want to try it at home this is how I made it:

1. I had to purchase the following things:
  • Pink spray paint
  • Magenta glitter (for shine)
  • Wooden piece for body (in this case a heart shape but doesn't have to be)
  • Ready made Bows (2pcs)
  • Solid Colored Ribbons- 1" width
  • Pattern Ribbons- 3/4" width
  • Tulle (I had two colors already so didn't have to buy)

2. To start the project of I first had to spray the heart shaped wood piece with pink spray paint. Let it dry for about an hour to hour and half, then sprayed it with magenta glitter.

3. While the heart dried I cut the main tulle in 2-3" wide stripes (skirt length can be as long as you want).
4. For the contrast tulle (magenta color) I cut 1 1/2"-2 wide strips and they have to a be a little shorter in length than the main tulle strips.
5. Once all the strips are cut I attached them to one of the 1" ribbons (cut the ribbon long enough to wrap around the wooden piece) this will be the "waist" ribbon.

6. Then I cut the ribbons (contrast solid color & pattern ribbon) about 1" shorter than the skirt length and attach to "waist" ribbon.
7. For a princess touch, I added rhinestones to "waist" ribbon (see photo below).

8. Once skirt piece was done I attached to wooden piece.
9. The bows were then attached at each side of the heart along with ribbon to hang on the wall
10. Last step was to hang all of Dahlia's Hair clips!

*TIP* I used a hot glue gun to attach all my pieces together

**Additional Tip** Having a little girl helping you is awesome and could not have done it with out her by my side :)

Hope you guys enjoy our DIY

Somedays Blue

Over the weekend I realized how Dahlia rarely wears blue so I made it a point to change her look for a couple of days. Saturday we we went to a barbecue with family and she wore a cute blue cardigan sweater with jeans and of course a nice matching white polka dot headband. The weather was pretty great that day and she enjoyed hanging out, riding around in her walker (she still falls when she walks on her own). All in all it was a good day.

On Sunday we ran errands as usual and her outfit was a light blue disney sweater tutu with black leggings. We were all over the place, mostly buying stuff for her big 1st birthday which I decide I don't want to include the color pink, so it will be only the colors on Ariel from the little mermaid which are seagreen and purple. Dahlia is a little tomboyish anyway so those colors are perfect. You can see the boyish side of her in photos below where she pretend plays with her brothers!

Even her sleepwear over the weekend was light blue....I might of gone a little over board with the color! Anyway she didn't mind, she's happy with anything we put on her as long as she can move around and doesn't slow her down.

Great Purchases

Over the weekend we did a little shopping and we bought Dahlia shoes which she couldn't wait to wear and share with you guys! They were both character shoes, which I usually don't buy because I don't think they are easy to wear with eveything. However I couldn't resist the little mermaid shoes and I couldn't pass on a great deal which only worked if you bought two pairs of shoes so of course I went for it! I think it worked out because the little mermaid shoes can be worn with outfits that have pink and the fairy shoes can be worn with outfits that have purple.

Besides the shoes I also found this amazing necklace holder which am using as a headband holder. I love it because it swivels and I can hang multiple headbands including the round plastic headbands which fit perfectly on the top! I found this great purchase at a craft store while shopping for supplies to make Dahlia a hairclip holder.

Yellow Funday

Dahlia has been a little under the weather for a couple of days now but today she seemed cheerful enough to go out and run errands with mommy & daddy. It was a sunny warm day so her Happy Yellow tee was the perfect outfit for today and of course she wore a nice matching headband.

On our way out with her pal Violet
Not so happy to be trying on things while shopping at Target
But super excited to get one of her favorite snacks

After a long day out and about we went home, she played with her brothers (a little too much if you ask me), then she took a bath and off to sleep she went :)

Party Countdown

Tutu Ideas

Cake Ideas

Table Decor Ideas

Center Pieces & Decor Ideas

Party Favors

Fish Bowl Party Favors
Its official the countdown to Dahlia’s 1st birthday has begun! In exactly one month we will be celebrating her 1st birthday and throwing her a Little Mermaid themed party and of course I’ve left everything for last minute although I’ve had these ideas on my desktop. It’s difficult to plan the perfect party while working full time and then going home and taking care of all the mommy stuff.

Anyway, enough venting for now, what I really need to do is make up my mind on what decorations, party favors and specially what Dahlia will be wearing. I found both tutus on Etsy and they are pre-order only so I have to place that soon, unless I make the tutu myself. As for party favors am really leaning towards the fish bowls, I love that idea and the seashell cookies. The rest of the d├ęcor is still a question mark, and need serious help.

Happy Valentine’s Day

I hope everyone has something wonderful planned for Valentine’s Day! This is Dahlia’s first and she woke up a little under the weather today so we are probably not going to do anything. Am bummed about that. But yesterday we were able to pick out valentine cards for both her brother’s school-mates, she was a real helper. The boys however decided to go with wrestling, angry birds and extreme sports themes...not something am so excited about but they are boys and that’s what they are into right now.

At least Dahlia enjoyed playing with the boxes, she wanted to put all of them in her mouth! Something she has been doing lately and we can’t stop her from tasting everything she gets her hands on!

Our Headband Creations

So if you are interested in making headbands, here is a quick way of making your own little headband creations:

1)      You will need to buy yardage of elastic (decorative or plain) in ¾” to 1” wide, I don’t recommend wider than that. Elastics like these are sold in any fabric or craft stores and usually the minimum to buy is 1yd which is more than enough for a baby or toddler’s head.
2)      Next you need to measure your baby or toddler’s head and cut the elastic to that length (leave about ½” extra at the end)
3)      Once you’ve cut the elastic, sew the tips together Or hot glue them if you don’t know how to sew.

If you choose not to make the headband yourself then don’t worry, you can always buy ready made crochet bands (sold in many craft stores)

Or you can also buy elastic hairbands (sold at any stores with hair accessories)

4)      Now that you have your headbands ready to decorate, you will need the following items:
-          Grossgrain ribbon or Satin ribbon to make your own bows
-          Or plain ready made bows
-          Light weight fabric like chiffon or mesh to make flowers or big bows
-          Rhinestone or small studs to embellish

5)      Once you’ve made or decorated the bow or flower that you will be attaching to the headband, you can attach with hot glue
(for the crochet headbands I cut a small circle of felt (about ½”) and place it behind the crochet to prevent any glue from dripping thru)

Headbands are ready to wear as soon as glue dries! Enjoy

The New Girl

These two little girls anxiously wait for the arrival of their new girl cousin who is expected to be born these week! We are more than ecstatic since she will be the last girl to complete the trio of females in our family (at least for now). For the past 2 decades only boys were born in our family until Dahlia broke that streak! Then 10 months later came Alicia (seen in picture here with Dahlia) and now, hopefully this week, will come Ariana Leilah.

So it's no surprise the family is going gaga over these little girls....I certainly am! I can make tutus, hair accessories, and even customized clothing. Things that are not as exciting when you only have boys. Not that boys are not fun because they are but it is different specially when dressing them and making them look cute.

For example for Dahlia's little cousin's babyshower I decide to make headbands! I bought a bathtub and filled it with necessary items that all mommys need and decorated each item by wrapping it with a headband specially made for Ariana. Since I also had store bought headbands I combined them with the ones I made and placed them all on a 2x20 cardboard that fit along side of the tub...This gift was fun and easy to make!

She is super happy how it turned out!

Later this week will post how I made these headbands and how crazy we are about making them! Dahlia is seen here wearing one of my headband creations ;)
